Course Outline

1. Playing with clay - Simple sculptures 
2. Introduction to clay structure and form
3. Introduction to various ceramic building techniques
4. Introduction to clay types and their primary uses
5. Hand Slab building, techniques and possibilities
6. Coil building. Create a pot, plate or cup using the coil method
7. Pinch pot method.  Create a sculpture, vase, cup or pot using this ancient method of creating essential utensils
8. Mold making methods using casting plaster. Create a master copy of a favourite item so duplicates can be made using liquid clay. 
9. Bisque firing the work created to date.
10. Glaze technology: what glazes to use on functional ware and application methods
11. Throwing pots on the potters wheel and adding a colour and glaze to the work fired in previous lessons.

• 6 Weeks (Finishing on 26th February) College closed for Mid Term break from 12th to 16th Feb
